The Branham Bruins will take on the Westmont Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Branham is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
Branham is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since March 10th on Friday. They fell just short of Live Oak by a score of 6-4.
Madelyn Steiner made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Sydney Short was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Westmont owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Gilroy. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.
Not much got past Lucky Felder, who gave up just five hits to keep Gilroy off the board.
At the plate, Westmont let Quinn Corbett and Marina Li run wild. Corbett went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Li went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Branham's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Westmont, their win bumped their record up to 7-13.
Westmont's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Branham has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Westmont, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Branham keep running through batters, or will the Warriors buck the trend?
Branham got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Westmont by a conclusive 10-2 score. Do the Bruins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
