The Prattville Lions will take on the Saint James Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Prattville has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with six straight losses, while Saint James will come in with ten straight wins.
It was a proper cat-fight when Prattville duked it out with Tuscaloosa County on Thursday. The Lions came up short against the Wildcats, falling 7-1.
Prattville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaytie Chandler, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Saint James hadn't done well against Tallassee recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Trojans never let the Tigers get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won 20 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Nobody will forget Emily Needham's heroic performance anytime soon (especially Tallassee's batters): she turned in a perfect game. Needham has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ava Stanford, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Kaitlyn Hudson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Saint James hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive contests.
Prattville's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Saint James, their win bumped their record up to 41-6.
Prattville was able to grind out a solid victory over Saint James in their previous meeting back in March of 2016, winning 6-1. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
