The Mountain View Mavericks will head out on the road to take on the Middleton Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Mountain View barely beat Kuna the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mavericks were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over the Kavemen on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won 12 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Easton Pierce looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Schneidt, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Ryder Hollifield also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Mountain View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kuna only posted an OBP of .391.
Meanwhile, Middleton faced Owyhee in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Storm. The win was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won three games in a row.
Colton Brink looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Grady Churchfield was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Holman, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Mountain View's record is now 16-4. As for Middleton, their record now sits at 15-7.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mountain View has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .478. However, it's not like Middleton struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mountain View came out on top in a nail-biter against Middleton in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
