First Baptist Academy has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Oasis Sharks at TBD on Monday. Neither First Baptist Academy nor the Sharks posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.
First Baptist Academy struggled with three-point shooting accuracy on Thursday (the Stingrays were 76% better) and sadly the final score reflected it. First Baptist Academy fell 34-24 to the Stingrays. While losing is never fun, First Baptist Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Stingrays are ranked 74th).
Despite the loss, First Baptist Academy got a solid performance out of Zara Leilani Stewart, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 54.2% of First Baptist Academy's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Oasis, who are still winless after their 14th game. They had to suffer through a rough 59-22 loss at the hands of Community School of Naples. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Oasis in their matchups with the Seahawks: they've now lost eight in a row.
First Baptist Academy's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-11. As for Oasis, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-14.
First Baptist Academy took their win against the Sharks in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 57-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for First Baptist Academy since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
