The North Cross Raiders's homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Carlisle Chiefs at 6:00 p.m. on February 6th. North Cross will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 185th, while the Chiefs are ranked 48th).
North Cross struggled with assists on Thursday (the Mavericks had 19 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. North Cross was beaten by the Mavericks 88-34. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points North Cross has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Antonio Mack, who scored 14 points. That was a full 41.2% of North Cross' points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Tristan Lange was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Meanwhile, Carlisle waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They enjoyed a cozy 70-55 victory over Eastern Mennonite. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Carlisle's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trey Beamer, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds. Beamer is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jameer Reynolds, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 18 rebounds.
North Cross dropped their record down to 9-12 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Carlisle, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season.
North Cross came up short against the Chiefs in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 68-63. Will North Cross have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
