Softball Game Preview: Wasatch Wasps vs. South Summit Wildcats

The Wasatch Wasps will head out to square off against the South Summit Wildcats at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Wasatch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Wasatch took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They put the hurt on Park City with a sharp 19-1 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wasps considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Mali Evans was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. Sydnee McPhie also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Wasatch always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .724. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, South Summit came up short against Olympus on Saturday, falling 12-4. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Emma Broadbent was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Brinley Stapleton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI.

Wasatch's record is now 2-4. As for South Summit, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wasatch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like South Summit struggles in that department as they've averaged .451. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Wasatch might still be hurting after the 16-5 loss they got from South Summit in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Wasatch avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
