The result came thanks to Gage Todd's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Marshall Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 8-11 otherwise.
At the plate, Marshall Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cash Redding, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Kossuth got the win against Mantachie on Thursday by a conclusive 16-5. The result was nothing new for the Aggies, who have now won eight matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Ayden Wilbanks was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Baylor Kelly looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Ethan Killough was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Noah Caldwell was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Kossuth was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in four consecutive games.
Marshall Academy's win bumped their record up to 10-12. As for Kossuth, their victory bumped their record up to 14-3.
