Montclair is a perfect 3-0 against Payne Tech since April of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Mounties will look to defend their home field against the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Montclair turned things around against West Essex on Tuesday. They never let the Knights get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory. The Mounties not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 16th (when they won 16-2).
Meanwhile, Payne Tech earned an 11-6 win over Belleville on Tuesday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Leilani Oyola was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Makayla Pittman and Olivia Mendez did most of the damage at the plate: Pittman got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI, while Mendez went 4-for-5 with three runs and one double. That's the most runs Pittman has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Marisela Sanabria, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Payne Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Montclair's win bumped their record up to 5-14. As for Payne Tech, their victory bumped their record up to 7-12.
Montclair got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2025 against Payne Tech by a conclusive 15-3 score. Do the Mounties have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
