Basketball Recap: Cortez Makes It Six in a Row on the Road

On Wednesday, the Cortez Colts earned a 76-64 win over the Yuma Criminals. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Colts.

Cortez got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ulysses Espinoza out in front who went 5 for 9 on his way to 15 points in addition to six assists and five steals. That's the most steals Espinoza has posted since back in November of 2023. Another player making a difference was Cassius Henderson, who went 6 of 9 en route to 17 points and three steals.

Espinoza wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Cortez was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yuma only racked up 12 assists.

When it comes to explaining why Yuma lost, don't look at Andy Mosqueda. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. Mosqueda has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Elliott Higuera was another key player, going 5 for 9 on his way to 16 points.

Cortez pushed their record up to 11-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Yuma, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Cortez will challenge Dysart at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Cortez's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches. As for Yuma, they will square off against Tempe at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Yuma is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.3 points per game this season.
