It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the University Prep Panthers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Central Valley at home to the tune of 39-6. The win was familiar territory for University Prep who now have ten in a row.
Darren Maples was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown on only six carries, and also caught a touchdown. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 McKinleyville and 1-9 Central Valley (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35.8% over those games). As for Central Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.
University Prep will be playing in front of their home fans against Lassen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lassen is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Central Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
