Hayfield is 0-4 against West Springfield since September of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hayfield Hawks will head out on the road to face off against the West Springfield Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Hayfield entered their tilt with Lewis with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Hayfield didn't even let Lewis onto the board and left with a 55-0 victory on Friday.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for West Springfield on the road against Woodson on Friday as the squad secured a 48-0 win. Given West Springfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 54th, while Woodson is ranked 213th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Mark-anthony Whyte, who rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Nizar Campbell, who rushed for 56 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Hayfield has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for West Springfield, they have yet to lose a matchup on the road this season, leaving them with a 8-2 record.
Hayfield was dealt a bruising 42-13 loss at the hands of West Springfield when the teams last played back in August. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of West Springfield's Whyte, who rushed for 245 yards and five touchdowns on only 15 carries. Now that Hayfield knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
