Decatur Central had lost three straight, but after bumping their record up to 5-7 on Wednesday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Plainfield Quakers 9-7. The game was the first time the Hawks have beaten the Quakers on their field since April 27, 2022.
The team relied heavily on Harlow Estes, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Mak Wilkerson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
Decatur Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.
As for Plainfield, they moved to 8-6 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss they have suffered against Decatur Central since April 26, 2022.
On Plainfield's side, Amelia Martin was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Martin has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Plainfield got a massive performance out of Belle Steele, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Ava Broyles also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Looking ahead, Decatur Central will be taking part in a tournament against Noblesville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Plainfield, they will take on Northview at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Quakers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
