Softball Recap: Wednesday's Win Is River Valley's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Yuma Catholic, River Valley was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Odyssey Institute Minotaur as they made off with an 18-0 victory. Considering the Dust Devils have won five games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Sophia Reyes made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Reyes was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaelynne Niswonger, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Lovie Phan, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

River Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matches.

River Valley is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Odyssey Institute, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-9.

River Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 13-3 victory against Parker on the 3rd. Hopefully Odyssey Institute payed attention to the Dust Devils' match: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Dust Devils at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
