If the Padua Franciscan Bruins were riding high off their 86-50 takedown of the Beachwood Bison last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Padua Franciscan was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 64-63 to Lake Catholic. Padua Franciscan was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lake Catholic apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Several Bruins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was JT Giannakopoulos, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. Giannakopoulos is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mike Banks, who scored 14 points.
Even though they lost, Padua Franciscan smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Lake Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ace Peterlin, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Peyton Budrys rini, who scored 15 points.
Padua Franciscan's loss dropped their record down to 10-8. As for Lake Catholic, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-10.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Padua Franciscan will take on Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Lake Catholic, they will stay at home for another game and welcome John Marshall at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Hopefully Lake Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Friday.
