The Wapahani Raiders posted their closest win yet this season on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Monroe Central 37-35. That's another feather in the cap for Wapahani, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Wapahani's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Megan Luce led the charge by scoring nine points along with three steals. Luce is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Destiny Felder, who scored 11 points.
Wapahani has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Monroe Central, they bumped their record down to 13-6 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wapahani's road trip will continue as they head out to face Lapel at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Lapel presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wapahani in Indiana (Lapel is ranked 49th, while Wapahani is ranked 168th). Monroe Central won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Cowan at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. Cowan has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 30.
