Lee Williams extended their losing streak to four on Monday, dropping them down to 9-16-1. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Copper Canyon Aztecs. The Volunteers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Aztecs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
Ian McGrew put in work while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
McGrew wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Yurcina, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
As for Copper Canyon, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 17, 2025.
Like Lee Williams, Copper Canyon also got a great game from a two-way player: Justin Ramirez. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ramirez was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dariany Flores, who went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nicholas Encinas, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Lee Williams does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Copper Canyon, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 15-0 defeat against Lake Havasu on the 29th.
