It was a good run, but the Mechanicsburg Wildcats unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 55-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cumberland Valley. Mechanicsburg has not had much luck with Cumberland Valley recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Creston Austin was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with eight rebounds and four steals for Cumberland Valley. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. Nolan Buzalka was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Mechanicsburg's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-2. As for Cumberland Valley, they pushed their record up to 6-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Mechanicsburg's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Hershey at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024. Hershey will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Mechanicsburg is ranked 63rd). As for Cumberland Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Altoona at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Altoona is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
