After flying high against Abernathy last Friday, Borden County came back down to earth. The Borden County Coyotes took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stanton Buffaloes on Friday.
Borden County saw one different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brandt Cox, who went 1-for-3 with a stolen base.
On Stanton's side, Bret Davis and Jaedyn Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Davis struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Martinez tossed two innings while giving up no earned run or hits (he also only allowed one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances. Borden County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Stanton, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.
Borden County will look to defend their home field on Monday against Holy Cross at 5:00 p.m. Stanton will take on Kermit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kermit is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
