Andrews is 2-8 against Kingstree since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Andrews Yellowjackets on the road again and play against the Kingstree Blazers at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Andrews focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday.
Andrews suffered their biggest loss since December 1, 2023 on Wednesday. Their rough 55-35 defeat to Marion might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Andrews can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while Marion is ranked 36th).
Despite the loss, Andrews had strong showings from Chris Stewart, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, and Vincent Rhue, who scored 17 points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stewart has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Kingstree had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 62-42 margin over Lamar. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Kingstree has posted since December 8, 2023.
Micheal Kelly was his usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with three steals and two blocks. He hasn't dropped below two blocks for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashton Woods, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Andrews' defeat dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Kingstree, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Andrews have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Kingstree, though, as they've been averaging only 23.8 rebounds per game. Given Andrews' sizeable advantage in that area, Kingstree will need to find a way to close that gap.
Andrews beat Kingstree 67-59 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Does Andrews have another victory up their sleeve, or will Kingstree turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
