The South Mecklenburg Sabres will be home for the holidays to greet the Palisades Pumas at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Mecklenburg will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
Even though Berry scored an imposing 59 points on Tuesday, South Mecklenburg still came out on top. South Mecklenburg took down Berry 75-59. Given South Mecklenburg's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while Berry is ranked 465th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Mecklenburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anderson Skelton, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The game was Skelton's third in a row with at least ten points. Peter Moye was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Palisades unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were dealt a 68-29 loss at the hands of Myers Park. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Palisades has scored all season.
Kingston Henry was Palisades' leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Jayln Hayes took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
South Mecklenburg's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for Palisades, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: South Mecklenburg hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 63.2 points per game. However, it's not like Palisades struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 63 points per game. The only thing between South Mecklenburg and another offensive beatdown is Palisades. Will they be able to keep them contained?
South Mecklenburg and Palisades were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January, but South Mecklenburg came up empty-handed after a 57-56 loss. Can South Mecklenburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
