The Seffner Christian Crusaders will be taking part in a tournament against the Brandon Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Seffner Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Seffner Christian had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Spoto on Saturday. Everything went Seffner Christian's way against Spoto as Seffner Christian made off with a 13-3 victory. The Crusaders not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 2, 2024.
Alejandro Hamana tossed a big game, pitching 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Those hits marked the first that he allowed this season.
On the hitting side, Brayden Nanns was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jenuel Ortiz, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Seffner Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Brandon sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Brooks DeBartolo Collegiate on Saturday. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by just one run.
Francis Ovalles was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Brandon is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-7 otherwise. Ovalles was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-6.
In other batting news, Charles Revi Rodriguez was excellent, getting on base in four of his seven plate appearances with one double.
Brandon's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Seffner Christian, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-6.
