The Boyd-Buchanan Buccaneers will head out to challenge the Soddy Daisy Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Boyd-Buchanan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
While Boyd-Buchanan's victory against Hixson wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Buccaneers skirted past the Wildcats 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won six in a row.
Boyd-Buchanan got a great performance from Peyton Schwieter as she struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). Schwieter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Boyd-Buchanan secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Sydney Baker, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Soddy Daisy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 5-1 win over East Hamilton on Saturday.
Izzy Webb made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Webb was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Skylar Gooden was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Soddy Daisy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Boyd-Buchanan's record now sits at 13-8. As for Soddy Daisy, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 17-12-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Boyd-Buchanan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Soddy Daisy struggles in that department as they've averaged .377. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Boyd-Buchanan beat Soddy Daisy 8-5 in their previous meeting on Friday. Do the Buccaneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
