The Hoggard Vikings fought the good fight in their overtime match against the North Brunswick Scorpions on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 78-67 to the Scorpions. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (55), Hoggard still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Hoggard still got an impressive performance from Jaylen Herring, who scored 22 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Herring has scored all season. Josiah Gillespie was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
North Brunswick got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Caleb Bernard out in front who scored 20 points. Another player making a difference was Malakhi Daniels, who scored 19 points along with three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Hoggard and nudges their season record down to 11-8. As for North Brunswick, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with that victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoggard will take on the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Brunswick will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 315th, while the Vikings are ranked 137th). As for North Brunswick, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Pirates at 7:30 p.m.
