Softball Recap: Martin County Makes It Four in a Row at Home

While Martin County put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for North East Carolina Prep. Martin County was the clear victor by a 10-0 margin over North East Carolina Prep. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by ten runs or more this season.

The result came thanks to Erica Sturgill's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ty'Hiera Wooten, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Raven Wiggins was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Martin County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North East Carolina Prep only posted a batting average of .077.

Martin County's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-0.the team's perfect season has a lot to do with their hitting performance: the team won's by an average of 11 runs thus far As for North East Carolina Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Martin County will head out to challenge Eastern Christian HomeSchool at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Eastern Christian HomeSchool has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for North East Carolina Prep, they will welcome Martin County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
