There's no place like home for the Mater Dei Knights, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Friday. They strolled past Carbondale with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 64-50. For Mater Dei, this counts as revenge for the 48-38 defeat Carbondale walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2017.
Drake Wagner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 35 points and 1 assists. That makes it five consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Mater Dei's points. Another player making a difference was Nick Lampe, who scored 19 points.
When it comes to explaining why Carbondale lost, one person who can't be blamed is Decarl Payne. Despite the final result, he scored 29 points. The contest was Payne's seventh in a row with at least ten points.
Mater Dei's win bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Carbondale, they bumped their record down to 7-11 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mater Dei will take on Nokomis at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nokomis will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Carbondale, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Cahokia at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Cahokia focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
