Meanwhile, Cape Fear came tearing into Friday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Seventy-First 74-57. Given Cape Fear's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Falcons are ranked 242nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jayda Angel was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it 18 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Cape Fear's points. Another player making a difference was Elisabeth Kirkland, who scored 12 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds.
Douglas Byrd's win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-15. As for Cape Fear, they pushed their record up to 17-1 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home.
Douglas Byrd was dealt a bruising 78-30 defeat at the hands of the Colts in their previous meeting last Wednesday.
