The Eastern Wayne Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Goldsboro Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Eastern Wayne got themselves on the board against North Johnston, but North Johnston never followed suit. They came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 12-0.
Eastern Wayne's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Izeiah Oates, who threw for 220 yards and a touchdown on only 14 passes, and Trondell Smith, who picked up 127 receiving yards and a touchdown. Jalen Harris made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
The team's defense also helped out by holding North Johnston to a paltry 197 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Eastern Wayne's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Jamen Kornegay and his two sacks.
Goldsboro can finally bid farewell to their ten-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Thursday. They blew past Spring Creek 29-6. The win was just what Goldsboro needed coming off of a 49-0 defeat in their prior match.
Eastern Wayne is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Goldsboro, their win bumped their record up to 1-8.
Eastern Wayne strolled past Goldsboro in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a score of 24-6. Does Eastern Wayne have another victory up their sleeve, or will Goldsboro turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
