Clinton has gone 9-1 against Pearl recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Clinton Arrows will welcome the Pearl Pirates at 6:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Clinton will bounce into Thursday's match after beating North Pike, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Clinton blew past North Pike 14-6 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Arrows considering their one-run performance the game before.
Annalise Whitworth was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
In other batting news, EstrElla Constancio was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Destiny Funchess, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Clinton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Pearl had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. Everything went their way against the Yellowjackets as they made off with an 11-4 victory. While the Pirates didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16-2), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ainsley Roberts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lauryn Lee, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-5. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Shiloh Wells was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Clinton now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Pearl, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
Everything went Clinton's way against Pearl when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Clinton made off with a 16-5 victory. Does Clinton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pearl turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
