Basketball Recap: Tucker County Takes a Loss

Tucker County suffered their closest defeat since December 29, 2023 on Monday. They fell just short of the Pendleton County Wildcat by a score of 55-52. The Mountain Lions just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Tucker County lost, don't look at Raven Matthews. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 27 points and 18 boards. The dominant performance gave Matthews a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makenna Evans, who posted eight points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Tucker County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pendleton County only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.

Avery Townsend continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Pendleton County, putting up 32 points and four steals. That makes it 15 consecutive games in which Townsend has scored at least a third of Pendleton County's points. Jameigh Miller was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

Tucker County's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 11-5. As for Pendleton County, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.

Looking ahead, Tucker County will host Tygarts Valley at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Tucker County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season. As for Pendleton County, they will head out on the road to challenge Moorefield at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pendleton County also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 51.9 points per game.
