Hempstead has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Hitchcock Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hempstead will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1155th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 135th).
Last Friday, Hempstead was the victim of a rough 55-34 loss at the hands of the Cougars.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jamari Idlebird, who scored four points. Kaleb Blackmon was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hitchcock had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.3 points), and they went ahead and made it 12 on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Danbury 104-18 on the road. Hitchcock has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 games by 23 points or more this season.
Hempstead's loss dropped their record down to 15-15. As for Hitchcock, they pushed their record up to 25-3 with that win, which was their eighth straight on the road.
Hempstead took a serious blow against the Bulldogs in their previous matchup back in January, falling 92-46. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Hempstead was down 52-14.
