Basketball Recap: Buna Piles Up the Points Against Kirbyville

Buna won the last time they faced Kirbyville and things went their way on Friday too. The Buna Cougars claimed a resounding 71-34 victory over the Kirbyville Wildcats. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 595th, while the Wildcats are ranked 1212th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Buna to victory were Brynn Branch and Jaiden Epps. Branch posted 19 points and six steals, while Epps dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Those 14 points gave Epps a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Harlee Everett, who went 5 for 11 en route to 13 points.

Buna was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

With the win, Buna broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 18-11. As for Kirbyville, their defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Buna Cougars duke it out with the Anahuac Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Buna is facing Anahuac at the right time seeing as Anahuac is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Kirbyville, they will take on East Chambers at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
