Softball Game Preview: Baldwin Bears vs. Lahainaluna Lunas

Baldwin has gone a perfect 10-0 against Lahainaluna recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Baldwin Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Lahainaluna Lunas at 5:00 p.m. Baldwin is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Baldwin and Maui, and Baldwin kept the tradition alive. Baldwin came out on top against Maui by a score of 8-5 on Wednesday.

Hope Batulayan-Cadorna spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Briana Maio-Silva (Ana) was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Shaileah Brown (Shai), who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Baldwin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .552. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .552 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Lahainaluna came up short against King Kekaulike on Saturday, falling 13-3. The loss continues a trend for the Lunas in their meetings with the Na Ali'i: they've now lost four in a row.

Baldwin pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Lahainaluna, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Everything went Baldwin's way against Lahainaluna in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Baldwin made off with a 13-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Baldwin since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
