Woodlake has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Minarets Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Woodlake on the road against Granite Hills as the squad secured a 41-7 victory. Woodlake's offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Woodlake can attribute much of their success to Isaiah Taylor, who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.
Minarets fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They were the clear victor by a 42-19 margin over Yosemite.
Minarets found their leader in underclassman Torin Wolf, who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries, and also threw for 85 yards and a touchdown. Joey Lamadrid also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was Minarets' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for seven sacks. Yosemite's QB won't forget Paxton Tovsrud anytime soon given Tovsrud sacked him seven times.
Their wins bumped Woodlake to 5-4 and Minarets to 6-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Woodlake has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 165.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Minarets struggles in that department as they've been averaging 147.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
