The Independence Wildcats will face off against the Myrtle Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Independence hasn't scored more than a single run for four games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.
Independence lost 9-1 to Pillow Academy on Wednesday.
Independence saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Merritt Owens, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Myrtle, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They came out on top against Senatobia on Friday by a score of 12-2 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). Considering the Hawks have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Tucker Elliott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Myrtle let Jaxon Robbins and Eli Hollis run wild. Robbins got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Hollis went 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. What's more, Robbins posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Stanton, who went 2-for-5 with three runs and one double.
Myrtle kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Myrtle has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 9-6.
Independence came up short against Myrtle in their previous meeting back in March of 2021, falling 14-10. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
