Basketball Recap: Northside - Jacksonville's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

After a string of three wins, Northside - Jacksonville's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a hard 59-41 fall against the Swansboro Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Monarchs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 351st, while the Pirates are ranked seventh).

Despite the defeat, Northside - Jacksonville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jamir Mitchell almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. Mitchell has been hot recently, having posted ten or more boards the last four times he's played. Joaliel Caraballo was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.

Swansboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tayvion Tangiora led the charge by going 8 of 13 on his way to 17 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jermaine Cunningham, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 12 points along with five steals and three blocks.

Northside - Jacksonville now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Swansboro, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 10-0.

Northside - Jacksonville and Lejeune will round out the year against one another at at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Lejeune is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.7 points per game this season. As for Swansboro, they will take on Southwest Onslow at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Swansboro also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 73.2 points per game.
