On Monday, things could have been worse for El Camino, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 72-53 loss to Stone Ridge Christian. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points El Camino has scored all season.
El Camino's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matt Martin, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Martin scored a full 32.1% of El Camino's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Justin Watts was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with ten rebounds.
Stone Ridge Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kassius Salazar led the charge by scoring 18 points along with nine assists and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Salazar posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Marcus Parker, who scored 19 points.
El Camino's defeat was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-5. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.5 points per game. As for Stone Ridge Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
El Camino will square off against Cosumnes Oaks at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cosumnes Oaks has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 430 points over their last six contests. Stone Ridge Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Denair at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Denair focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Saturday.
