The Golden Valley Cougars scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2023 than the 78-32 stomp they got on the road against Pyramid Lake. Considering Golden Valley has won four matchups by more than 20 points this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jeff Tangaan was his usual excellent self, scoring 17 points. He continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Braden Castleton, who scored 12 points.
Despite the loss, Pyramid Lake still got an impressive performance from Takoda Rivers, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. Rivers is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Warren Christy, who scored six points.
The victory (which was Golden Valley's third in a row) raised their record to 9-4. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 27.33 points. As for Pyramid Lake, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Coincidentally, Golden Valley and Pyramid Lake will both be playing Sparks the next time they take the court. Pyramid Lake will head out to face Sparks at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Golden Valley will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
