Northeastern Clinton and Saranac are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Northeastern Clinton will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Northeastern Clinton had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt AuSable Valley last Tuesday. The Cougars blew past the Patriots 16-5. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Jacob Perkins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Perkins was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those runs marked the first that he has scored this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Robert McIntyre, who went 1-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. That hit was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cobe LaFountain, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Saranac suffered their biggest defeat since May 11, 2024 last Thursday. They lost 22-4 to Rice Memorial. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Spartans' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.
Saranac saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Seth Petrashune, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Saranac, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Northeastern Clinton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Saranac struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Northeastern Clinton came up short against Saranac in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 7-4. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
