Softball Recap: Shamokin Area Has No Trouble Against Lewisburg

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mifflinburg, Shamokin Area was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Lewisburg Green Dragons. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Green Dragons: they've now won three in a row.

ALIANA BRIGHTBILL made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. BRIGHTBILL was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on AVA HUGHES, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. FELICIA ZIGNER was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Shamokin Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .743. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lewisburg only posted an OBP of .182.

Shamokin Area's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-5. As for Lewisburg, their loss was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shamokin Area will square off against Central Columbia at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lewisburg, they will head out to challenge Bucktail at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
