Softball Recap: Jefferson Wins Going Away Against West Adams

Jefferson hadn't done well against West Adams recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Democrats were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Panthers. Considering the Democrats have won five contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Valerie Echevarria made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs but no hits. Echevarria was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Melanie Garcia was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Helen Serrano was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing six bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Jefferson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.2 runs over those games. As for West Adams, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Coincidentally, Jefferson and West Adams will both be playing Manual Arts the next time they take the field. The Democrats will host the Toilers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Panthers will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
