6A Region 1 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Murphy's Sam Dixon recorded the longest rushing play in 6A Region 1 this season in his game against LeFlore last week. Dixon ran for 91 yards on the play and finished with 185 on the day as his team defeated the Rattlers.
McGill-Toolen extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Daphne, 38-21. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Yellowjackets.
Forrest Anderson put up the best numbers through the air as Baker beat Robertsdale. He finished with a total of three completions for 36 yards and one touchdown. Anderson's favorite target this week was Ray Norwood, who caught one pass for 25 yards.
Michael Hudson was the best wideout in the league this week as Murphy bested LeFlore. Hudson racked up one reception for 32 yards.
Ronn Lee's team's Kameron Maye and Hudson have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 6A Region 1 in both passing and receiving yards. Maye has thrown for 234 yards this season, while Hudson, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 10 catches for 217 yards. Berron Tyson from the Hornets leads the league in rushing with 855 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place McGill-Toolen takes on second place Blount. Last week, McGill-Toolen defeated the Trojans, while Blount lost to Vigor.
Montgomery moved up to 133 from 159 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Vikings climbed the ranks as a result of a 29-23 win over Saraland.
