Ocosta hasn't had much luck against Wahkiakum recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will face off against the Mules at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Wahkiakum will be up against a hot Ocosta team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Wildcats blew past Chief Leschi 47-6 on Friday. That looming 47-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wildcats yet this season.
Ronin Rutzer produced another solid effort rushing for 201 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 96-yard run. Benjamin Tackett got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ocosta was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 311 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 228 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Wahkiakum faced Oakville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mules blew past the Acorns, posting a 62-6 win. The Mules' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Ocosta better keep an eye on Jayden Stoddard. He was instrumental in Wahkiakum's win, rushing for 159 yards and three scores, while also throwing for 59 yards and one TD. With that strong performance, Stoddard is now averaging an impressive 109.2 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Parker Leitz, who picked up 103 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Ocosta's record is now 3-1. As for Wahkiakum, their record now sits at 4-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Ocosta has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 315.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Wahkiakum struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 188.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Ocosta suffered a grim 50-28 defeat to Wahkiakum when the teams last played back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Stoddard, who threw for 274 yards and five TDs on only 16 passes, and also rushed for 94 yards and one score.
