The Villa Madonna Vikings will take on the Dayton Greendevils at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Villa Madonna is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Villa Madonna's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over St. Henry. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Crusaders recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.
Cam Kratzer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Kratzer was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.
In other batting news, Chloe Cotton was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Madyson Ross, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Villa Madonna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They are 6-2 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Dayton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 13-8 to Bellevue. Greendevils fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Tigers since on Monday.
Emily Hall led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Ella Boyers was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Villa Madonna now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Dayton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
Dayton's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Villa Madonna has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Dayton, though, as they've been averaging only 1.8 strikeouts. Will Villa Madonna keep running through batters, or will the Greendevils buck the trend?
Villa Madonna was able to grind out a solid win over Dayton in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 5-2. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Greendevils turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
