The Wren Hurricanes waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Southside 89-53 at home. Given Wren's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Tigers are ranked 152nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Abijah Franklin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 34 points and 13 rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 18 or more in the last 11 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Campbell, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Southside saw an underclassman step up: Jaden Johnson scored 30 points along with three steals. That was a full 56.6% of Southside's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Brown, who scored 12 points.
Southside struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Wren racked up 18 assists.
Wren has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Southside, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-13.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wren will take on the Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Palmetto has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Southside, they will be playing at home against the Patriots at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Powdersville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully the Tigers likes a good challenge.
