The Memorial Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight loss. They were outmatched by LaBrae at home and fell 55-14. While losing is never fun, Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 775th, while LaBrae is ranked 296th).
Despite the loss, Memorial had strong showings from Diamon Sims, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds, and Angeliz Diaz, who scored two points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Memorial struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as LaBrae racked up 21 assists.
LaBrae's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marissa Levensky led the charge by scoring 17 points along with six steals and five rebounds. Levensky is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Kuszmaul, who scored 17 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Memorial dropped their record down to 2-16 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 17.8 points per game. As for LaBrae, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-3.
Memorial will head out on the road to square off against Liberty at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Memorial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Thursday. As for LaBrae, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Grand Valley at 1:30 p.m. LaBrae is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.4 points per game this season.
