Softball Recap: Watchung Hills Regional Drops Season-High Score on Oak Knoll

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Watchung Hills Regional). They were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Oak Knoll Royals on Wednesday. Considering the Warriors have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Olivia Videla made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Watchung Hills Regional let Leila Romero and Riley Bobrowski run wild. Romero got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Bobrowski got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave Romero a new career-high. Kelly Shikar was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Watchung Hills Regional hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oak Knoll struck out seven times.

With the win, Watchung Hills Regional broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 13-4. As for Oak Knoll, they dropped their record down to 3-8 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Watchung Hills Regional will host Hunterdon Central at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight. As for Oak Knoll, they will square off against Rahway at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
