Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Northwest Catholic). They put the hurt on the Wilbur Cross Governors with a sharp 14-4 win on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Thomas Cerreta made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Northwest Catholic let Jonah Balcerzak and Andrew Mikan run wild. Balcerzak went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Mikan got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Mikan continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Blaise Hannigan, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Northwest Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
