The Smiths Station Panthers will be playing at home against the Lanier Poets at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Lanier took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Smiths Station, who comes in off a win.
Smiths Station stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Booker T. Washington as Smiths Station made off with a 57-35 victory. The win was just what Smiths Station needed coming off of a 68-41 loss in their prior game.
Meanwhile, Lanier's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight defeat. They were beaten by Park Crossing 56-19. While losing is never fun, Lanier can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 363rd, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 15th).
Smiths Station's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Lanier, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17.
Everything came up roses for Smiths Station against the Poets when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 48-11 victory. With Smiths Station ahead 29-8 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
