The Independence Knights will square off against the Emerson Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Independence's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for six straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.
Independence fell victim to Memorial's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 3-0 walloping at the hands of the Warriors. While losing is never fun, Independence can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 542nd, while Memorial is ranked 175th).
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 1-1 at halftime, Emerson was not quite Heritage's equal in the second half on Friday. They fell 4-2 to the Coyotes. Emerson has not had much luck with Heritage recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Independence dropped their record down to 1-11-1 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only scored one goal over those four matchups. Emerson's record now sits at 2-7-4.
Independence took their victory against Emerson in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Independence since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
