Softball Game Preview: Hackberry Mustangs vs. Johnson Bayou Rebels

Hackberry is a perfect 3-0 against Johnson Bayou since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Mustangs will host the Rebels at 5:00 p.m. Hackberry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.

Hackberry had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Singer on Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Hornets 19-3.

Calli Trahan made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. Trahan was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Harmony Bodie, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubre Mire, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Hackberry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Singer only posted an OBP of .389.

Meanwhile, Johnson Bayou was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 20th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 19-0 to South Cameron.

Hackberry is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Johnson Bayou, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Hackberry took their victory against Johnson Bayou in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 19-0 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rebels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
